Welcome to Stanwick Village Residents' Group

We love our village and everything about it. To ensure it stays as beatiful peaceful and welcoming as it has always been, the Group has been established to support how the village grows. We are here to ensure that approaches by land developers are appropriate and to work with the Parish Council and East Northants Disctrict Council to ensure that all issues and matters related to the views of the community of Stanwick are correctly addressed.

Below are the most recent news updates related to our activities and progress on proposed changes to our community.

Cottons Surgery News

Interesting, worrying yet valuable to be informed by the Cottons Patient Participation Group that with effect from 15th February 2016, the Cottons Practice List has been CLOSED to all new patients, with the exception of Hargrave.

Click here for the announcement and supporting letter.

A recent letter entitled "General Practice in Crisis: A Statement from Northamptonshire Local Medical Committee" highlighted the dilemma of reduced funding in General Practice over recent years and the fact that surgeries  are faced with huge difficulties in recruiting new doctors and nurses to work in General Practice. Currently there is a shortfall of about 10,000 GPs across the country. The letter reflects that it is impossible to see how this shortfall can be addressed when it takes a minimum of 10 years to train a GP.

Consequently the NHS has authorised the Practice to close their list for the next 6 months, after which time an application can be made to extend the closure further.

While we feel this is a regrettable situation which is beyond our control, we believe the information and background is of use in our campaign to stop any significant development within the Stanwick boundary. We do not have our own GP Practice and the majority of residents are patients at The Cottons.
